You must report your absence to Science Advising no later than 48 hours after the missed final exam or final assignment deadline by submitting the form requesting deferred standing (see link included on this page). If you then require time to collect appropriate supporting documentation, you have up to 14 calendar days to submit the additional information to Science Advising.
To apply for a Standing Deferred (i.e., SD) standing, please visit https://science.ubc.ca/students/deferred-standing.
After being granted an SD standing:
The Biology Program expects students with a deferred standing to write their deferred exam in the next term the course is offered. If the course is not offered in the next term, then students are required to apply to write their deferred exam with Enrolment Services in either the July or November SD exam period.
- If the course in which you have an SD status is offered in the next term, please contact the course instructor to make arrangements to write your SD exam with them.
